i cant believe how many people actually get why this is such a big deal for me. seeing all this support is giving me the confidence i need to show this to my parents later.

LET YOUR CHILD GET A PHONE! It helps so much by letting him communicate with his peers about projects, or have a social life - an extremely important aspect of the teenage years.
Im a 18 year old guy from Germany, so this may or may not apply to your situation aswell, but I think having a smartphone is essential nowadays. I personally use my phone for a lot of things. Texting friends the most random stuff. Asking classmates about homework. Quickly checking something for an essay without having to turn on the computer. Communication with my parents what to do and just keep each other updated. We are at a point where it is essential to have a mobile phone this days. The fact that a 17 year old guy cant just reach in the pocket of his jeans and have access to almost all knowledge known to man, and the ability to communicate with basically everyone, is just a wasted opportunity.
I never got my phone until the summer after Grade 12 and I can honestly say that it hindered me a lot, I was never able to contact my friends when I was away from my computer, nor could I contact home. Getting my phone made it a lot easier to stay connected with my friends.
Are they living under a rock? What happens if you they lost? If they miss the bus home and needs a ride? How does he call for help? Do you want your son/daughter to get killed? There are so many reasons why a cell phone is a must have in this day and age that it honestly boggles my mind that a 17 year old doesn't have one while 9 year olds traipse around with iPhone 6s'.
Good luck getting a phone, they are pretty important. I honestly cant believe you dont have one, what if you want to go out? How will your parents contact you in an emergency? How will you contact your friends to make plans? Good luck fam.
Technology in this day and age is very beneficial towards a students success. Though, it can be abused and detrimental.

A phone is very important for a teenager. Not only for friend making and emergencies and such, but for school too. I can't count how many times I have been required to use my phone in class. Its honestly just embarrassing for a teen to not have a phone.
