Ok, so we were officially able to watch Your Name. It was great in my opinion, solid 9/10. My friend gave it a 7.5/10. Here are his comments, 'The cinematography was really impressive as for the plot, there were quite a few plot holes that I wasn't able to understand such as the diary scene where the notes disappeared before Taki's eyes. I didn't really understand the sound track but it had good rhythm and matched the scenes. The art style was nice and better than I expected. Overall, I enjoyed this movie but I would not watch anime in the future. Perhaps I will watch anime movies recommended to me. I think I understand the anime community a little better but I still can't see the hype of it all.' -Friend who doesn't watch anime

Just because it's an I'm shouldn't be the deciding factor of a movie, I get if people don't like it, though my childhood friend, he hated anime, till I show him full Metal alchemist though now he doesn't hate it but isn't the bigest fan and dislike mainstream animes. Your friend might love the movie and he should give it a try
