Most schools have gone to a no cut for cheer squads and the accommodations you are asking for would be what I would be asking for all the cheer squad myself.

At my high school we had not 1 but 2 people with special needs on our cheer team so this story breaks my heart! She should be allowed to be a honorary cheerleader!

As an educator, I care enough about my special needs students to do whatever I can to make my school inclusive. I hope you do too. You have nothing to lose but this little girl does.

That's complete BS!!! She can attend a "normal" middle school but isn't allowed to participate like the others. My daughter is in middle school and I attended middle school competitions and there were many schools with children that had special needs and that did perfect!! Most cases it isn't the students with the problem, it takes a GREAT cheer coach/sponsor, with that being said I say the cheer coach/sponsor can't handle it!! Fight it fight fight fight!!! Good luck!!!

I met maddie at NCA and it was one of the best moments I have ever had with someone! She asked what team I was on and she continually cheered for my team while we were walking through our hotel! She has such a bright spirit and really defines what makes a cheerleader which is positivity! Any cheer team would be extremely lucky to have her!!!!

She could be such an asset to the team. The enthusiasm she will bring to the team and sports will be amazing,

I have worked with Special Needs individuals at our cheer gym. What I have found is that they challenged me to change my way of thinking and educated me as to what they ARE capable of if given the chance! Good luck to her, the school and squad will be soooo much better if closed minded people would take the opportunity to learn from others that may be a little different than them! Wish her the best and tell her to keep her head up! She has a cheerleader cheering her on with me!

This girl deserves to be on the team. It is a middle school cheer team, and the fact that they don't make accommodations already is a shame.
