A fever or a car wreck could render each of us disabled or mentally challenged....In a split second. Love and care for others. Give her what she needs, she deserves it as much as anyone else!

Wakeland High School in Frisco Texas had 2 special girls that were added to our varsity squad. It was the best thing they ever did & the students loved it.

I coach middle school cheer in Tyler. While we have not had a special needs cheerleader, we have had a special needs student make our middle school dance team! She did great! I also grew up in Garland and graduated from South. Come on GISD- do the right thing!!!!

Good luck sweet girl! I sure hope this school does the right thing. As the mom of a special needs child and allstar cheerleaders, this hits close to home. Praying! ❤

This is disgusting, discriminatory, and unacceptable!!!! As a high school special education teacher, if Maddie were my student, I would be speaking with the cheer coach, administration, and superintendent if needed, about providing her the same accommodations as she is allowed academically. For the example, if allowed double time for tests than Maddie should be provided double time to learn her cheer for tryouts. If ACT can allow and provide accommodations, than so can cheer teams for kids like Maddie.

Shame on you GISD for hurting this child. Madison has more spirit than any girl at Coyle middle school. No one deserves to be on the squad more than Madison!

I believe that under the ADA she is entitled to receive the accommodations she is requesting. Schools should be accepting of ALL students. Diversity should be embraced!! With 10 years of allstar cheer experience she is probably the most experienced cheerleader to tryout. Do what is right!
