Good luck and God bless. Whoever makes that decision needs to actually use their heads and think about what's best for Maddie and that they are supposed to be supporting the kids.

My daughter with Ds was the first in her district to cheer on the varsity level. Good luck Maddie!

GISD should definitely work on a way to make the opportunity to make it all more inclusive for those with special needs.

I believe that Maddie should be apart of the cheer team. She would make a good asset to the school.

I have TWO points to this petition: I do believe she deserves a fair chance to get onto the team, she sounds like she is very high functioning and I have a brother who is also has down syndrome and is high functioning and is very smart but does take more time to learn things but when he does, he is no different from the other kids hes just as well qualified but does need that extra time to practice. THAT BEING SAID THOUGH, is this coach not letting on the team because she has down syndrome or because she is not good? You say you want your child to be accomedated like everyone else (just as my parents wanted for my brother) but with that also comes that there are girls without down syndrome as well who will also not make the team. If she is being judged like every other child and gets the extra time to learn the material and be prepared then if she doesnt make the team I do not see the reason to make the school force her to be on the team because she has down syndrome. You make it seem if she had more time to learn the material she could make the team and thats great but if not this petition sounds like your trying to force the school to put your child on the team (even if say she gets all the time she needs to prepare for it and still doesnt make it like other girls without down syndrome and thats okay because then she would be being accomedated like any other girl trying out but if the coach is denying her on the team because of down syndrome but is just as good as anyone who made the team then that is not okay). We are all not good at everything and I am glad she loves cheerleading but not every sport is made for everyone down syndrom or not. I love volleyball but I stink at it. My brother loves music but he cant play a instument to save his life (he didnt make the school band and has down syndrom BUT his down syndrome didnt become the reason he didnt make it, it is just because not everyone is cut out for everything) I think she 100% the right to have just a fa
