this isn't fair. why do people have to look/act a certain way to fit in? ugh society is so disrespectful and judging.

If Madison has successfully performed with an all start team there is no reason she can't be an asset to her middle school team. Kudos to Cheer Athletics for recognizing talent and looking beyond the fact that she is a special needs child and recognizing her ABILITIES.

No one should be told what they can't or can do. She was given this disability begond her control.

Thank you so much Shannon I asked last year to add this to her IEP and they refused and said it was not educational and could not be added to her IEP....The school is giving one Accomodation to all the athletes now and they will all get a copy of the tryout video.... I do appreciate these other avenues and hopefully we can get this fixed before she gets to Highschool and we can help other younger kids with disabilities that would like to cheer when they get to middle school :) Thank you so much for support and guidance its really really appreciated

It's very sickening and sad that a parent has to work this hard for what school educators and staff should already know what is important for the development and future of our young ones, with or without a disability! I hope their decision is over turned and some sort of accommodation should be made in the best interest of the child! Some how I feel like A.D.A accommodations should intervene here and there are laws that protect against these acts!! Jonathan Escoto

It is not right to crush the dreams of kids at such a young age.

Everyone deserves to be included and as a cheerleader I believe CHEER makes life better and Madison is amazing she has The power to change lives she should be in the team.

Hello! I am a special education teacher in AZ. If you're interested, I'd be happy to assist you with how to get this accommodation added to her IEP (school is SO much more than academics). Because your request is a considered a "reasonable" accommodation, you may consider contacting your state's Exceptional Student Service department, as well as consulting with a child advocates through the Department of Developmental Disabilities to file a complaint. If that is unsuccessful (which I doubt- schools have a tendency to rapidly change their tune when advocates become involved), I would also suggest investigating how to submit a request for the Office of Civil Rights to consider if the school has violated her rights. Cheering for you Maddie! Knock em dead!
