Different, not less. After school activities are directly related to in-school performance. Unfortunate this cannot be placed in her IEP even with the research to back how important extracurriculars are. Praying for justice for Maddie.

I am infuriated reading this. My sophomore year at Rockwall High School (back in 09-10) we had a girl with Cerebral Palsy who was confined to a wheelchair who was on our cheer team with us. She was on the sidelines with us and went to games and all that jazz. I do not understand what the big deal is having Madison on the team. I never personally knew Madison but cheered at the same gym as her back in the day. I would always see her and what a beautiful, bubbly personality she had and the enormous amounts of joy she gave off to everyone around her. I am saddened to see that GISD has not done anything about this. I sincerely am praying there is a change.

I think it is important to include her in sports she already faces enough difficulties why not let her be happy and cheer her heart out!

Maddie can truly be an asset to the cheer team, students and fans. She deserves a chance with at least the modification of getting a copy of the routines prior to give her some extra time to learn the routines. My daughter has been allowed to cheer in uniform with the high school girls for her sisters volleyball team and the fans love her spirit, skills and what she brings to the game. maddie will bring such a positive spirit to your team!

Let her cheer! You can't be an ambassador for the school and leave someone behind who loves the sport! I'm SURE you could find SOMEWHERE on the team for that sweet child who probably loves cheer more than most of those kids. If you can make exceptions for boys you can make exceptions for her! Let her cheer! ❤

Our high school has a girl with DS that cheers with the varsity cheer team! They asked her because she loves it! Come on! Show some class Coyle Middle School!

Madison is a exceptional athlete and young lady. She dedicates her time and energy on cheering at one of the BEST cheerleading gyms in the WORLD, Cheer Athletics. She is a joy to be around and will be even more an asset to this schools cheerleading squad then you could ever imagine. Please give her the opportunity regardless of her "disability" that those that are close to Madison, no longer see. All we se is a beautiful full of life cheerleader that keeps us smiling and laughing.
