Keep Watertown Sunday Softball League Local

This is absolutely ridiculous to charge such fees. The city does little to keep the fields up to par I have seen guys on sundays have to clean up the fields in order to play a game there. You tell them Jesse ......

I know a lot of guys that play in this league, and they really look forward to it every year. It would be a damn shame to take that away from them. Would the City rather have the fields unused on Sundays? If so, then that is a big mistake, in my opinion. Please, let common sense prevail for once, don't let this happen Mayor Graham.

I don't play, but have a lot of friends who do. Don't ruin this for them please.

Why is it every time there is something for our local people ,players and fans the city seems to feel they are losing out on something so they charge money and or create regulations that make it tougher for these pleasures to exist . Just let them play !!!!!

Sunday softball is a great way to keep the community together. We barely have any activities in watertown and to get rid of an activity would make this place boring and not a fun place to be around.

It is not fair to any of the guys that play their hearts out every Sunday and most who represent some of the top athletes in the area, to be manipulated into paying a ridiculous fee to an organization that hardly lifts a finger to contribute to the season on a whole. Some of best summer memories are with Fatboys! Tohell with this new fee and anyone else who doesnt eat breathe and bleed Sunday softball!

Please don't forget....1240AM Monday - Friday is the Mayor's "Hotline" radio station from 12-1PM. Please call and make our voices heard. We need the Mayor's supporty so keep it proffesional and clean.

Rosh great post. Nate i hear ya, def frustrating. Just want to say thank you all for the support and hopefully we can continue to get people to sign this petition to show the city council the affect it has. No reason for increase without justification or improvement to fields.

What exactly is the $4000 for? The fields have to be mowed whether we use them or not. Other than keeping the fields mowed what other service does the city provide??? So why the dramatic increase? All questions that will not get answered I'm sure

Well said Corey....We must unite as a league and not allow the city to force us to leave the fields that we have been playing on for 44 years!

The city of Watertown needs to give a break on the per game fee. The teams already pay $1,500 between league fee, uniforms and umpires. Not to mention the cost of personal equipment. That is hard to cover with just sponsorships so alot of teams have players pay out of pocket. Such a dramatic increase in fee from the city will cause players to have to pay too much that they must not participate. Dont let them take away the one thing that brings us all together.

For the past 16 years I have enjoyed the competition and the friendships the WSSL has brought into my life. The WSSL has been part of my life for much longer than just the 16 years I have competed, however. As a boy I would travel to the various city fields each Sundayto watch my father play, looking forward to the time when I would be old enought to join him. While I have have competed in various sporting events throughout my lifetime, to include state playoff games and collegiate baseball and football, nothing brought me greater joy than the season of softball I was able to play with my father. Driving us out of the City with such astronomical fees will rob future generations of the thrill I was able to experience. To some, the WSSL may simply seem like an excuse for the guys to get together, but for others it truely is a family event. As stated before, our fans bring in money to local grocery stores and gas stations, and while we are not a "bar league," several local establishments also enjoy revenue from our league. I have heard the word fiscally responsible thrown around quite a bit lately, but can't help but hope that moral and ethical responsibility will fall somewhere into the equation. I ask you Mayor Graham and the Watertown City Coucil to help us keep our game local. We are your teachers, your soldiers, your police officers, your physical therapists, your car salesmen, your insurance guy, your truck drivers, and even your teachers. I come across some absolutely retarded things in my line of work. This might take the cake. I would like to think the parks and rec supervisor has a brain, this would be a great time to use it.

I think this is ridiculous. Every year I look forward to watching my husband play softball, my kids enjoy watching daddy play. For us this is a tradition and now we have to think of the possibility that there won't be anymore games or my kids and I will have to travel. I would like to know who came up with this figure? an increase of 4,000 dollars? Sunday league has been around over 40 years.. What is this 4,000 dollars going toward ?
