We have to keep Lockwood Folly inlet open, passable, and save. It's a valuable resource for the eastern Carolinas and critical to keeping our waters safe.

As a resident of Riverside near Varnamtown, I know the importance of keeping the Lockwood River open for all river traffic. Our Varnamtown fisheries depend upon this and dredging needs to happen. I hope that our government will listen and get the water flowing at a safe level!

I have a few reasons to request the dredging of the Lockwood Folly River. Personally, one of the reasons my wife and I purchased our home in Riverside was because of its private access ramp and dock on the river. Secondly, as the Riverside P.O.A. Board President, its my responsibility to do everything I can do to keep this access usable for our members. Third, this river is vital to our local fisheries economy. Without proper maintenance of the river, a way of life that has been part of the local heritage will be lost. Fourth, the shellfish that we enjoy so much will not be as readily available. They may come to be permanently unfit to eat due to contamination caused by the river not flowing as needed.

If the inlet isn't kept open, the water retreat after a major storm will run wild. With no access to escape, who knows what the damage my be.

Get the little shallotte river and saucepan creek while you are at it. City sewer and lawn care products control to waterfront areas should be noted as well

This inlet is vital for us small fisherman to access the ocean without traveling several miles out of our way. Trying to navigate Lockwood Folly inlet since Hurricane Matthew has been to dangerous to chance on a low tide.
