White Horse Park is a development in Berlin, Md. that is near and dear to my heart. However, the Worcester County (Md) Commissioners have recently sought to enforce a zoning ordinance that has gone unenforced for 30 years. The people who would be deeply impacted by the persecution of this statute would be forced to leave their homes during the winter months and find somewhere else to live, while they would continue to be responsible for paying their monthly homeowners fees, common area electric, their share of water, and in many cases, their mortgages. This of course will be added to the cost of their alternative housing. We are talking about approximately 60 housing units to fixed income seniors which include disabled, chronically ill, and veterans who fought for the freedoms we have today. Some have put their savings into modifying their homes to help them deal with their disabilities after obtaining permits that the County approved. These residents are taxed as the same rate as a residential development, yet they joined the rest of their community in maintaining the roads and sewer and water infrastructure of WHP through their monthly HOA dues. Please join me in signing this petition encouraging the Worcester County Commissioners to allow these folks to live in their homes year round until they die or sell their homes at which time their houses would revert to the legislation which the County is trying to force on them unnecessarily at this point in their lives.
