These films usually end bad. If you look at the tough process of how Star Wars 1977 was made, it was seen as a bad idea because it was a soap opera which had no good reason to be filmed and put on the big screen. It then became culture, and it is obvious that it changed our view on space. Movies are meant to change culture, not use culture to their demographic advantage. Rather than appeasing to teens and kids, I suggest making the next generations be treated like adults.
