1 black man is killed every 28 hours by police or vigilantes. As shown by the murder of Michael Brown, as well as many other, similar tragedies, Police are allowed to use lethal force in very excessive ways, and get away with it without punishment. Not only that, but african americans count for about 40% of the prison population, despite counting for only 13.1% of the nation's population. The ability to use brutal, even lethal, force, and the fact that police can use lethal force even when it is clearly unnecessary, is very sad and even more sickening.

By signing this petition, you are going to contribute to a new idea of solving this problem: the development and research of more non-lethal weapons for police officers. For example, imagine a gun that shot volleys of electricity, not nearly enough to kill but only enough to subdue and pacify. Or, perhaps, another form of ranged weapon built to subdue. By giving police more options, it would not only give them more reason to use non-lethal force, but it would give us even more reason to criticise them should they continue using lethal force when it is unnecessary. Police brutality is a very serious problem, and we, as american citizens, need to band together to stop it. We were given the right of free speech for a reason, and that reason was to make the world a better place. For you. For me. For everyone.
