There should be no credible reason she can’t finish her sentence after the passing of her mother.

As someone that took care of my mother with Alzheimer’s I think by letting Helen serve her sentence taking care of her mother would help both of them deal with what is upon them! Please allow her to take care of her mother!

My comments mirror what the petition laid out but I also want to offer some of my own personal details since I have been at my parents' home day and night to attempt to substitute the care my mother was providing my grandmother with. I witness the deterioration in my grandmother every single day. I see the pain in her eyes and hear it in her voice every time she calls out for my mom or asks when my mom will be home- it's beyond heartbreaking because there's no way I can explain or have her understand what's going on. All she knows and understands is that her daughter isn't here. I get sick every time she asks me why she left, how could she just leave her like this. When is she coming home. My mother is my grandmother's only child and a daughter who has always been there for her. Who's always taken care of her in the 30+ years of my grandmother living with her. Imagine your daughter, who every day is the only person who takes care of you - who gets you up in the morning, changes you, bathes you, cooks and feeds you, puts you to bed, talks to you, reassures you- someone that you love and trust completely- then one day she's gone. We've tried explaining but it doesn't matter, for someone with dementia it is devastating to lose a caregiver, but when the caregiver is your daughter that you live with- what kind of irreversible damage does that do to them? Again, being here on a daily basis, I not only see the decline in her health but the decline in her willingness to live and hold on. That's what worries and scares me the most. Her life expectancy is 1-2 years, so how long can someone at her age and in her condition hold on for- especially under these conditions. That's why we're circulating this petition...it's outside the scope of any other considerations - all we are asking for is for others to think of the circumstances and sign the petition to demonstrate that these kinds of circumstances do matter... Thank you to everyone that's signed and even offered kind w

I’ve known this family for over 30 years. They are good people. I honestly don’t think that the punishment is fair. Please don’t take the last memories that this family will have with their loved one away.

As a daughter of a parent with dementia, I understand how important it is for Helen to be with her mom during this difficult time.
