I understand everyone's concerns here and it is valid. However, I strongly thing everyone should be seeking more information rather than jumping on the band wagon. First off, who created this petition? Second, where was this located? Third, was this a pulic or private stable? Meaning did this exist on a private owner's property, Or was the owner offering boarding to other owners? Fourth, how many animals were in the structure at the time the fire started? Fifth, how many animals did not get out and perished? Sixth, what was the cause of the fire? Seven, How close was the nearest caretaker? There are just some of my questions! I grew up with horses and we keep them at our local fairgrounds as we had standard-bred race horses. The bard we rented annually was built in the early 1900's and upgrade made over the years. Here is the thing, if the barn would have caught on fire due to lighten strike, arson or electrical, sprinklers MIGHT help but are now designed to completely put out fires. Second, if you installed smoke detectors, who the hell is going to be alerted and go let the animals out? What if that person was out of town, sick, or say in the hospital? Who would be contacted and who is going to contact them? I know tons of people who have horses and other animals such as goats, pigs, sheep and many show these anilmasl at fairs, 4-H etc. I hate to sound mean or be the bad guy here but no one or no animal makes it out of this world! I know that is sad to say but except the truth! Next, who is going to pay for such upgrades? It sounds like whoever started this petition boarded their animals (horses) on someone else's property. As a horse owner or animal owner, are you willing the bear higher costs of boarding or even upgrade your our barn? For most, probably not! Are you going to bitch and complain wheh you go to the store and the price of pork, beef, chicken, are through the roof because farmers are required to install smoke detectors and sprinler systems in barns

This is heartbreaking and unnecessary to lose our animals in such a horrific manner.

My heart is breaking not only for every single owner of these horses but for the horses themselves... How can we help this not happen again?
