Absolute joke of a company. Sacking someone who is about to have a new baby over a gift that was clearly meant to be nasty is just cruel. Hope he gets his job back or finds something better soon.

if someone drove up behind me onto a curb no matter how fast i would see that as threatening, a better plan of action would be to go talk to someone face to face or arrange a meeting if it effected them so much. but also i have heard quite a lot of things were said when the secret santa gift was received, but if you feel like you have been wronged here, get a solicitor. looking for sympathy or recognition of the things that have happened won't change things

Threatening behaviour is debatable. No threats were made. However the bullying of a pregnant woman and her partner is a clear fact.

Due to the understanding of that this incident happened outside of the working grounds and off working hours, which in legal reasons has nothing to do with the working area itself, this would be between the two colleagues of which had a disagreement upon a subject that should be sorted within an elongated time period by the two colleagues upon discussion through things like social media or more informative place outside the working grounds/time (Face to Face) to help provide a ground basis as to whether the said book was an intended or unintended ''Joke'' amongst the secret Santa. Both parties should agree upon a said time and date with the knowledge of a higher formative work colleague to help assess the situation.
From my knowledge a colleague has connected the situation outside of work from the workplace to ask for an apology and reveal the affect it had on his emotions.
It seems the situation became a serious matter as the person/persons whom bestowed the gift felt like taking the matter to the workplace.
I don't take sides in situations, my life is complicated enough, so when something like this crops up it is rather convoluted as the persons in which the appeal/petition is being made against does not have evidence to provide for this to situate into a formal disciplinary meeting at work.
It is within my understanding that this person should not have been dismissed/laid off from his job due to a dispute outside of working grounds.
This person should be able to have his job under the provado that the two colleagues should stay at a distance from each-other until further acception of this should not have been taken to a formal meeting at the workplace.
It has been said the Somerset police were informed and rang at the time in which they came out and assessed the situation at hand.
I feel this person should be able to work until further notice or work until he is wanting/willing to find another job.

Were the police involved in the incident with the car. If not? Why not? This was an incident that took place outside of the work place, and such has no reflection on the work ethics of the young man involved, which is what the company should be concerned with. Unless the company had an ulterior motive for getting rid of him. I would suggest any other employees should join a union. Unison. So that they in turn are not treated so shabbily.

This is wrong on many counts.
1. Company should not get involved in personal pranks
2. The incident happened with car out of office no association unless wearing company uniform
3. No indipendant witnesses ?
4.why would company go into such detail on small matter which could have been rectified with an apology from both parties. Unless they have a separate agenda to get rid of employees anyway. Which I think is a stupid way as father to be has every right to appeal under unfair dismissal.
4. Have you got legal representation if not you may qualify as now unemployed.
Good luck hope you get things sorted as to look forward to new bub

I believe the person who gave the book to the father to be should be the one who should lose his job or be the one under investigation
