As a Mount Alum, I am so troubled by this. Mr. Newman's actions and the trustees response is unacceptable. These faculty members should be reinstated and Mr. Newman should be replaced!

My freshman year I had a 1.8. However, the Mount did not give up on me. I was not forced out because I was less than. I am graduating from law school in May thanks to the Mount! This could not have been possible had I been a student under this new regime. The Mount will forever hold a large place in my heart but I am saddened over the new tactics and strategies being implemented. This is especially true of the demotions and firings.

From out here it is clear President Newman and the board have really screwed up. They made it clear their priority is their personal reputations and not the education of their students. I wouldn't even consider letting my family's children go to Mt. St. Mary's at this point, and as far as reputation goes, I'd avoid hiring any graduates (assume the school taught them to act as they do). I'd suggest the rest of the staff and the current (and recent) student body should file suit..

I sign this petition as an alum of Mount Saint Mary's who is shaken, disturbed, and disappointed by the direction the current president of the university is taking. I can only hope that the school can recover from these horrible actions.
