Don't Starve Our Models.
The goal of this petition is to stop modelling agencies to make their models unnaturally thin, as it is unfair on the models, and the millions of viewers. People shouldn't have to starve themselves to be deemed beautiful.
Coming out of class the other day after learning about appearance ideals and the cruel world of eating disorders, I thought to myself, why is the simple solution to end all of this so hard to enforce? It's because people listen to the media, trying to sell you products that help you look 'the right way' as it's proffesional media. Unfortunately, telling the youth and even ourselves that this is unhealthy and photoshopped isn't really enough to change our thoughts about the human body. That's why the proffesional media should change their ways! The ones that are force feeding us by saying 'you have to be slim - but not too skinny'
By making sure all models are at a healthy weight, it will show the world that you don't have to be dangerously thin and have to starve yourself to be beautiful. The average british/american person sees over three THOUSAND altered ads, saying how you should look DAILY! Those 3000 ads should be embracing body positivity by showing all different types of healthy bodies, and not creating the huge problem in the first place. The problem that had created over 30 million people from the USA to suffer from eating disorders, and for one person with anorexia to DIE every 62 minutes.
The law in France and similar neighbooring countries state that: 'those employing models considered dangerously thin face fines of up to €75,000 and six months in prison' and also 'will make it illegal to promote anorexia on the internet and will oblige agencies to clearly mark all photographs of models that have been retouched to alter their body shape.' This is a phenomenal idea that will definately overtime decrease eating disorders and increase everyone's confidence and body positivity. The punishment too, should stand in the UK/America as it certainly fits the crime.
In conclusion, it should be against the law for companies to sell products using the poor, unnaturally thin models, as it's unhealthy for the model and the self esteem of the millions of viewers. By preventing this, ED caused by lack of body confidence will be reduced.
Thank you for your time, please do sign to end the cruel media manipulating us and the future generations, it will be greatly appreciated. This is just one step closer to breaking the 'beauty rules'.
(Note: This is not banning plus size models, it's all about models having a natural body)
