HD-DVD has lost the HD format war even though Toshiba sold over 1.3 million HD-DVD players. Toshiba should release all the specifications for their entire HD-DVD line. The community can find alternative uses for the players such as PVR thin clients. Toshiba has the opportunity to foster good community relations while preventing all those players from turning into landfill.

Seeing this much energy behind the idea of opening up these specs is honestly wild because I really just started this out of frustration with how much plastic ends up in the trash. It feels like we are actually hitting a nerve with folks who remember that these machines still have plenty of life left if we could just get our hands on the technical details.

makes total sense. i hate seeing perfectly good hardware hit the trash just because the company moved on.

PLEASE RELEASE THE SPECS. Toshiba owes us this much after the format war ended so abruptly.

I still have mine. would be cool to see what people could do with the firmware if they just opened it up.

dont just throw them out. useless e-waste is a huge problem and this would give them a second life.
