This is a petition to pass HB 4067/ SB 0560 and pass it with NO age limit. Currently in the state of MI a married woman's husband MUST go on the birth certificate of her child. As well as up to 10 months post- divorce he must be listed as the legal father. A putative (biological, non-legal) or presumed father has NO legal rights. As well as unless disputed and mutually agreed a husband (legal father) has no way of fighting this and is legally responsible. Even through DNA testing both legal and putative fathers are being stripped of their rights. Children are being denied the right to know their real fathers. Through this bill MI fathers, mothers, and children of legal age will now have the right to go to court, be legitimized, know their children, know their fathers, and not have to be responsible for children that are not theirs. However HB 4067 currently has a 1yr age limit and SB 0560 a 3 yr. age limit neither of which are practical. There needs to be a grace period for all families previously affected or no age limit at all. Please help us and join in this cause to help our families.

It is up to us the public to be heard and make a difference for our community and our children!

The stories coming into my inbox are just heartbreaking because people are stuck in these legal loops that seem designed to keep fathers away from their own kids. I have been talking to a few people behind the scenes about the next steps for these bills and it feels like we are finally starting to rattle some cages.

I really thought this might just stay ignored in the void but seeing people show up like this is making my head spin. It turns out so many families are feeling this exact same broken system and honestly knowing I am not the only one fighting this feels like a massive relief while I try to figure out the next step for talking to the state reps.

Its about the kids! They deserve to know who their real dad is. Stop hiding the truth behind outdated paperwork.

So backwards. Its 2016 and we are still doing this nonsense in Michigan? DNA doesnt lie.

This is total insanity. How can a state force someone to be responsible for a kid that isnt theirs? Fix these laws already.

I been stuck in this loop for 3 years. It keeps me from my real kids and drains my bank account. Enough is enough.

My ex had to deal with this nightmare and it ruined him financially. Courts need to wake up and start using DNA for what it is.
