Washington State House Bill 1715 Is an attempt to hide information from the public about what goes on in DOC

The Public Records Act was enacted by initiative in 1972 requiring that the public be provided liberal access to Department records RCW 42.56.030.

A "public record" includes any writing containing information relating to the conduct of government or the performance of any governmental or proprietary function prepared, owned, used, or retained by any state or local agency regardless of physical form or characteristics.

Allowing the department of corrections to exempt information contained in the internal database on security threat group data from dissemination under the public records act.

Anyone who has worked for, currently works for or has been incarcerated in Washington Department of Corrections know that there are no reasons or rational why information is labeled “security threat group data” .

This Bill will allow DOC not to provide information if I&I wants to label it STG related.
