This is a petition to show support for the cause that Inpatient Unit Clerks and Float Clerks, working on adult units at Michigan Medicine, should be receiving additional hourly pay to account for the extraordinary and dangerous circumstances we are faced with during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Clerks are an essential part of the support system of nearly every department at Michigan Medicine. Any Clerk that is working on adult units during this time is putting themselves and everyone in their household at risk of contracting a deadly virus. This is unprecedented in modern times. The current situation we are showing up to face every day is far beyond what any of us have ever imagined. All projections are that the current situation will become increasingly worse and more hazardous to hospital staff.

We ask that the managerial staff and the Senior Director of Central Staffing Resource begin a dialogue with adult Inpatient Unit Clerks and Float Clerks to discuss what action will be taken toward appropriate compensation based on our additional risk.

We just hit 250 signatures and Michigan Medicine management still refuses to acknowledge the danger they put us in every single shift. Stop ignoring the people who keep your units running while we risk our lives for your bottom line.

The momentum we have built proves that Michigan Medicine cannot keep ignoring the risks we face every shift. Management is finally seeing that we refuse to be treated like disposable assets while we work in these dangerous conditions.

They absolutely should get hazard pay and all PPE there as well I am no stranger to the ICU and the clerks are less than 20 feet from some of the rooms!!

With the current shortage now, combined with the fact some new hires potentially won't even finish training when they hear about possible interaction with positive patients, wouldn't there be logic in fair compensation for that? Plus, don't look now, but there's potential for the whole hospital to be RICU...

As a former inpatient clerk and current RN I know the risk clerks are having to face on the front lines for very little pay. Appropriate PPE and hazard pay for inpatient clerks are both necessary during the current pandemic

I have under line health issues & a 3yr old son at home. Everyday I debate coming to work. I am not only putting my life at risk but also his.

I am 67 years old, history of asthma and yes I am concerned for my safety, and I am putting my health on the line here. We may not be going directly into patient rooms but we are just as exposed by the staff that do... and might themselves be carriers.

Unit and float clerks are putting themselves and their loved ones at physical risk on a daily basis. They deserve not only hazard pay but more protection. Take away a clerk for Even 30 minutes and watch the chaos begin. They are essential and deserve hazard pay.
