Its absurd that on this popular retail island we don't have a grocery store. If you think Target is a solution try shopping there exclusively month after month! We live in a food dessert and that needs to change!

It's been hard ever since Safeway shut down. The closest thing to a grocery store on the island is Target... It's not as good.

I worked at Safeway when it was here. Because of its location on I5 and the Oregon-Washington state line, the store had many, many more customers than from the local neighborhoods. Oregon’s low liquor tax and lack of state tax drew many Washingtonians, some from as far as Seattle to stock up on wine.
The hotels on the Island brought national and international conference goers, soccer teams, and staff from numerous transportation companies (airlines, rail, trucks, and merchant marine). The Jantzen Beach Mall brought in additional customers. Many residents of Hayden Island also worked at Safeway.

There is a desperate need for a grocery store on the island! There are many people here that are senior citizens, and some don't drive or have the ability to leave the island to buy food!
We have to rely on Target which is a "make believe" grocery store!

We need a grocery store on Hayden Island. There are plenty of residents to support one.

We need a healthy, fresh, local and broad grocery shopping option without leaving the island and contributing to traffic on Interstate-5!
