Hawaii Cheerleading Judging Questionable

Very poor judging. Teams with slow cheers and basic stunts are boring. It seems like that is what the judges like. How do you place a team in the top 3 that only does cartwheels no other tumbling. So bad

Unfair and biased judging also happens on the Big Island within BIIF. There is a judge on the panel with NO prior cheer experience as an athlete or Coach. I’m confused why new judges aren’t brought in every season or from another island that has NO ties to any of the schools here. The unfair judging teaches our athletes that unfortunately no matter how hard you work or the effort you put in, it’s who you know.

It's about time that these cheer judges are made accountable for their unfairness!! Now that their unfair judging is made known to hundreds, maybe thousands of people from Hawaii to the mainland, hopefully these Hawaii Cheer Judges will start doing what they were actually paid to do and not give their friend's cheer team or alumni higher scores just cause they have that power! As I read through the updates, I see that there can't be anything done regarding the past Westerns scores or placements. That's too bad for the schools that were robbed of their points and placements. At least moving forward we can hopefully see a real change in the judging system and get "REAL, DESERVING" scoring for all the cheer teams involved. I'm not trying to bash anyone, but as I was reading through some of the comments, I noticed that the ones who were saying that some of the teams deserved their placing in the Westerns, was obviously from a cheer club or a winning cheer team. Of course he, she, or they who supported such comments never experienced unfair judging cause they were always winning or on the top. Everyone who has been a part of high school cheer for the past 5 - 6 years will know who the top winning cheer teams are. It's pretty obvious where that person whom was making such comments came from. But I have to say that Mililani has always, I mean always showed such great humbleness everytime I was there to witness their victory that they always deserved. I believe it's because of their coach. She was humble enough to go up to the Kapolei cheer team and say that they DID NOT DESERVE the low scores they got. Kapolei came in 2nd place at the Pre-Season Competition and they improved their routine, but got lower scores and came in 5th at the Westerns. Yes, they could have been a little cleaner, but come on judges - REALLY?? Was giving higher points to your friend's team or alumni worth shattering all the hard work that the other cheer teams put in? I know all the cheer te

It's sad that our cheer teams all over the island has been subjected to unfair judging for many years. From all the competitions that I have attended throughout the years, the teams that have won and came in 1st place always deserved it. There has never been a debate about that. However, there has been many other teams who had great and clean routines, but still didn't get the points they deserved and it affected their placements in advancing to the OIA's or States. What I don't undertand is why do the judges always have to come together and compare scores, when they all had totally different views. One judge might have seen a clean routine from one angle, but another judge may have seen errors from another angle. They should base their points from the angle they are in. There shouldn't be any comparing of scores cause they didn"t have the same view or angle. What's the purpose of having a judge on the left and right if they're just going to compare and change the scores? It's obvious that this petition is about fair judging and not bashing or putting down the coaches and schools. And then you have people commenting about putting your child in private lessons, a cheer club, etc. That is not what this petition is about. Do you know how hard it is for some parents to even keep up with the cost of their child being a part of the cheer program is? Or any sport? I found that comment to be very offensive because I have known so many cheerleaders and athletes throughout the years who's parents couldn't afford to pay for certain things. Yes, the cheer teams can work harder and clean up their routines, but the point of this petition is about fair judging. Mainly about the past Westerns that took place on October 21st. Anyone who was there in person will all agree that certain schools were not given the points they deserved.

Entertaining parents are great to have. At least they dont teach their kids to be dramalani like some parents. Great job kapolei and coaches!! You taught them how to be positive.

I'm new to cheer but just by watching the competition, the winner deserved to win. However, the placement of the other schools were questionable in my opinion. Bottom line, judge fairly and show no favoritism. The athletes deserve it!

My niece is a cheerleader for JCHS. The judges didnt judge fairly. It didn't take a rocket scientist to figure that out!!!

Competitions shouldn’t have the same judges every time. They need to be changed out every time.
