As active and concerned members of the Harvard community, we expect Harvard to manage its resources and wield its influence in an ethically responsible way. In order to address our role as consumers in perpetuating the conflict in the Congo, we ask Harvard to lead the nation by taking the following three actions:
1. We ask Drew Faust to issue an official statement of support for conflict-free products and legislation.
2. We ask Harvard to change its technology procurement guidelines for buying computers and electronics, using its role as an institutional consumer to create demand for conflict-free products.
3. We ask Harvard to use its influence as a major shareholder in electronics companies to introduce shareholder resolutions and/or adopt proxy voting guidelines that support the development of conflict-free products.
