We The People of the great state of Michigan are demanding harsher punishments for domestic violence. Far too often those who commit these violent crimes are let off with little to no jail time and walk the streets again while their victims are scarred for a lifetime.
We find these acts of violence to be most heinous and expect our justice system to do the right thing and punish these domestic terrorists for their actions. Domestic violence has been a growing crime in this state as we are in the top 5 for most domestic violence crimes.
We are demanding our justice system create a law that protects our citizens from more violence. It's time to clean up this great state. We are calling upon our representatives to take this petition to the floor and fight for those victims of domestic violence.

The volume of support we have generated has officially secured us a meeting with the state legislative office next week. I am currently finalizing the formal brief to present our proposed sentencing changes to the committee.

judges, probation officers and other professionals should be required to learn about these abusive, controlling mean (biggest percentage are men anyway). After reading "Why Does He Do That" by Lundy Bancroft I was amazed to find out abusers fool judges, probation officers, etc. because they're so good at their sick game!!!!
I survived & I still have to deal with the worries due to there not being strict laws that protect us & our children. No one shoukd have to live in fear.
There needs to be higher harsher punishments for domestic violence ..I was in a abusive relationship before and he got two nights in jail I got two weeks in the hospital
A survivor now I was almost killed by my abuser... And he never faces consequences and a PPO is just a piece of paper... Useless
It is rediculious what 1st and 2nd time offenders get. I am a survivor of severe DV. My dear friends daughter is still in the hospital unable to hear out of her ear or see out of one eye! Yet, the abuser is already out of jail 2, mind you 2 days later.. Let loose before even her physical injuries are healed, little lone her mental issues. This must stop. Too many are dying due to this "slap on the wrists" of $500-$1500 fines and from 30 days to 6 mos max time, which always get reduced to just anger management and 30 days or less! STOP THE MADNESS OF ABUSE, CHANGE THE LAWS FOR STRICTER SENTENCES TO LET THEM KNOW THIS WILL NOT BE TOLERATED!!!
Born n Raised in Michigan. I as Survivor of abuse i feel harsher punishment for the abuser should be done. Not just in Michigan but all over. Ppl are getting harsher punishment for way more less. these animals should Get harsher punishment as well.

As a survivor of domestic violence I believe there should be much more education within the judicial austen regarding this issue and rigid punishments with no plea bargains for abusers...
