My children are entering the elementary school next year and after reading and viewing pieces about synthetic turf and "crumb rubber", I implore you to halt the project. Please, for the health of our future generations coming up through this wonderful community, don't do it.

The New York State D.E.C. made it a priority to close all tire waste stockpiles that were within 1 kilometer of SCHOOLS, hospitals or population centers, within 250 meters of wetlands and so on due to adverse health and environmental concerns by 2010. How is it possible that the same product gets pulverized into small particles, thus creating a greater surface area to be exposed to, and put into school yards? There is huge cause for alarm.

I hated the idea of turf immediately. It is not healthy for the kids, playing on the stuff leads to injury. BAD IDEA!

I can not even believe that a town as progressive and smart as Sag Harbor would even think about putting their students and teachers at risk by putting in this very harmful, incredibly toxic material on their field. This must be stopped. In a town where there is such a strong eco mentally where farms and water is the backbone of our community, there can not be such a cancer. Too much information (for years!!!) has been proven about the toxicity of the proposed material. Stop it now. Finding an alternative will save lives.

I am SO glad this petition has been started. I almost voted against the budget because of this issue alone!!!!! I have been concerned about all the same things as well as how horrible it is environmentally.
Please let me know if there is anything more I can do to help prevent this from becoming a done deal....

Please reconsider and it will make a difference on so many levels. I will not allow my daughter to participate in organized sports on that "recycled" turf when she gets to Pierson if this goes through.
It just doesn't seem necessary, let alone a good idea. Please reconsider separating the projects involved within the bond.
