The availability of Halal and ritually slaughtered meats are becoming more and more widely available to anyone in the UK with most restaurants and take aways choosing to use only Halal meat so as not to offend (or lose the custom of) the muslim population. Any time a restaurant opens that is not Halal they petition it and 9 times out of 10 are successful in turning yet another establishment into a Halal friendly place. Is it not about time we ALL had a choice in the way our meat is slaughtered? Do we not ALL have a right to know where our meat comes from? Why is it okay to stick a huge certificate up in a restaurant window broadcasting the fact that it is Halal yet if we put a certificate up saying 'We are NOT halal' we would be deemed as discriminatory. The slaughter of animals killed by Halal methods is way beyond cruel and was banned in the UK some years ago because the country recognised just how cruel the process is. Why is it that this is now widely acceptable again? Why is it that we are making allowances and paying money towards (because we are not given a choice as non muslims) a ritual that slits the throat of an animal, hangs it by its hind legs whilst the animal is completely concious and lets it bleed to death. I call on any one who shares the same views to sign this petition and get your voice heard.
