Hairstylists within Peel and Toronto have been forced to close for the second time during one of its most busiest months to come. It’s only a matter of time that surrounding salons will begin to close due to the traffic that will begin to travel to other regions.

Salons in Ontario have had a clean track record with no reports of being a culprit in spreading the virus, since salons follow procedure, protocols and bylaws resulting 0 cases thus far. A forced shut down is unacceptable and there has been no data or correlation between the spread of Covid19 and hair salons. Hair salons are operating at half capacity with strict measures of not only sanitization, temperature checks upon check in, social distancing and mandatory masks being worn throughout services while in the salon.

Although hair salon services are related heavily to the beauty industry for many individuals, there is a huge component of social connection, mental health and a sense of community involved within salons and between the stylist and client. It goes beyond just getting a hair cut, these spaces birth friendships and provide genuine human connection with one another. With day to day activities and many significant celebrations being cancelled, a hair salon has become a spot to revive not only ones hair but their spirit as well. It is a place of coming together looking good not only on the outside but inside too during this isolating and unsure time.

We are asking for the government to reconsider and reevaluate their data and decision on closing hair salons down. In a province that encourages small businesses, this year its actions have proven otherwise. Take into consideration that salons have and are following strict measures, to ensure a safe environment for not only its staff but also their clients and their community. It is confusing as to why big box retailers remain open while there is a higher chance of a virus being spread in an environment that is less controlled.

It is time our industry is respected, we are more than just Hairstylist’s, we are a big part of peoples most special moments, we create and foster human connections, we build up peoples spirit, confidence and we are here to make you feel positive about yourself. Join us and help us get our voice out, we are not the problem, we are not the reasons this virus is spreading.
