On 8 August 2013 some scientists have published in Nature and Science journals a letter stating that experiments involving the deadly virus H7N9 should be carried out. Among other things these experiments would include mutation of the virus making possible its transmission from mammal to mammal (which is, apparently, not possible with the existing ''natural'' strain). The experiments will provide the opportunity for this virus to stay alive outisde its host for a longer period of time. It is evident that this mutated virus could easily cause a pandemic. From my point of view decision making about such serious public-health threats should be taken only after extensive informed consent of the general public. This is a matter that affects all of us and our children and should not be left to a minority of people to decide. So please sign this petition and inform your friends and your representatives in your country's parliament about this petition.
