The investation of gypsy moth is significant. The environmental conditions are perfect for them to thrive. We need a significant intervention that will help to reduce there impact locally. Individual property owners need broader control measures to reduce the numbers. Quinte West council was made aware of this significant problem in the summer of 2020, as well as winter of 2021 for the spring control of the caterpillars. The caterpillars are currently at the stage of development where the spray agent will be less effective unless completed in the next several days. In other words it will be a waste of time and money for 2021 unless action is taken immediately.

I have submitted several emails to multiple people in quinte west and to mpp. The city believes it's the province's problem while other cities and municipalities are looking after it themselves. Step up to the plate and help homeowners (who pay hefty taxes), and help them in their diligent efforts of trying to control the moths from decimating their properties.

There are so many in the forest that is city owned at the back of my property it sounds like it is raining from them eating the leaves and faeces dropping.

We are fighting a second year of gypsy months. The toll on our trees last year was devastating. They will not survive another year of this infestation. This is a huge problem for not only our trees, but the habitat and natural resources. It has been financially and physically taxing. We need our municipality to step up (now).

I've already invested hundreds of dollars towards trying to stop these things this year. Not to mention last year where I did the same. They're destroying my trees, hedgelines and pool. They make my outdoor space unusable and they're giving my family rashes on their skin. I pay taxes for my municipality to deal with this, yet they do nothing. These caterpillars are hitching a ride on all our vehicles, getting spread throughout the area. If you do nothing, it will exponentially spread.

All my red maples have most of the leaves with holes all through them, and tiny caterpillar’s hanging from them! GROSS!

We have 25 acres of beautiful woods that are totally infected with these gypsy moths. There is no way to protect that many trees with burlap and other suggested options to control them. We are not alone. Trees are dying. Kids are covered in rashes from these caterpillars. Aerial spraying seems to be something other areas of Ontario are doing to safely control the infestation. Why can’t this area do the same?
