Amendment to Compensation for loss of players to GWS
This year and next year several AFL players will be appropriated by Greater Western Sydney as uncontracted players. Several clubs, which also lost players to Gold Coast last year, now face the prospect of losing a second player despite a number of clubs losing no players. This year, the Western Bulldogs may lose Callan Ward, one of their most promising players, the year after losing Jarrod Harbrow. Adelaide has already lost two players, one of whom was All-Australian Nathan Bock and the other of whom was his natural replacement. It is entirely possible that both clubs, and possibly others, will end up receiving considerably less than market value for these players. Accordingly, this is a petition to the AFL, in addition to the criteria already in place for determining compensation, to consider players already lost to Gold Coast under this system last year.
