Final supporters
As students, staff, faculty, and members of the George Washington University community, we voice our support for a dining hall at GW that provides both real food and real jobs.
Our University has a mandate to care for all community members, which includes over 60 dining workers currently employed at GW who have worked hard for decades to feed students, staff, faculty, and the community.
We urge President Knapp and the administration to create a dining hall that advances the aforementioned values by:
-Affordable Dining Hall
Providing two quality affordable meals daily through a swipe system, mindful of dietary restrictions
-Real, and sustainable food and dining
Retaining all current workers with union recognition and a fair contract
Immediately enacting the commitment to 20% local, sustainable, humane, fair food
Creating partnerships with local farmers and businesses to source food
Allowing student review of any and all GW dining proposals
-Student Oversight and Involvement
And hold public forum where students and community members can ask questions to all bidding companies
Creating student work-studies at GW to research and enact these goals

I really thought this might just be a small thing I put out into the void but looking at how many people have jumped on board is blowing my mind (and honestly keeps me up at night in the best way possible). Seeing this momentum gives me so much hope that we might actually get those dining workers the security they deserve even if the administration is being stubborn right now.

the staff deserve better contracts and we deserve food that isnt just fast food chains. please make this happen.
Fix the dining hall!!!! Its ridiculous that we pay this much tuition and cant even get a decent meal on campus.
Listen to the students for once. We want real food and we want to know the people making it are being treated right.
Keep the jobs local and stop outsourcing everything. GW is a community not just a business.
The dining options on campus are seriously lacking and way too expensive. We need better food and fair treatment for the staff who work here every single day.
