Support Our Gum Springs Football League Coaches
Gum Springs is in jeopardy of losing two of the best assistant coaches due to a new policy on background investigations. Rule 2.4.1 and 2.4.2 states.: 2.4.1 Effective June 1, 2008, all FCYFL Executive Committee members, all FCYFL Club Commissioners and all FCYFL head coaches must go through USA Football’s Background Screening Program through the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI) or an equivalent program recognized to be just as effective. 2.4.2. Effective in 2009 and thereafter, all FCYFL Executive Committee members, all FCYFL Club Commissioners, all FCYFL Assistant Commissioners and all FCYFL coaches must go through USA Football’s Background Screening Program, the National Center for Safety Initiatives (NCSI) or an equivalent program recognized to be just as effective. We understand the importance of having a background check done when it comes to adults working with our youth. There are child molesters and pedophiles that should not be allowed within 1 million feet of our children. Mike and Tony don't have charges on their record that reflect any danger towards them being around our kids. They were faced with circumstances in their past and made a few wrong decisions but they are better people because of what they have gone through and they are dedicated to these boys, some of who don't have fathers at home and look up to Mike and Tony. These kids have dedicated their time, their strength, their attention, and their respect to these men. Many of them only joined the team because they wanted to be under their coaching. Now all of this has been snatched from these kids right before season is to start. All of the training, coaching, and leg work that Mike, Tony, and assistant coach Dave, and head coach Lamont have put in is paying off. They have put together a dynamic team that is guaranteed to make it to the championship and the haters are coming out of the woodwork. They don't want to see Gum Springs do anything but stay black and fail. This whole situation has devastated our kids and they marched into the gym yesterday during a meeting with the commissioner wanting to be heard. These men volunteer their time to these kids and not only are the coaching them, they are being role models to them. They tell them to stay out of trouble, stay off the streets, stay in your books, listen to your parents, respect your elders, grow up before you have babies to raise, and most importantly, call me if you need anything and they are there for them.
