We are a group of Guilford residents that have come together in response to recent acts of local vandalism, including destruction of the Sensory Garden at Roses for Autism, racist graffiti, and the damage to/theft of many Welcome Neighbor lawn signs. We feel that it is important to act now to prevent any further harm to our community. Our primary goal is to establish a Commission on Human Rights, which will promote Guilford as a safe space for its residents and visitors, and create a welcoming presence in our town. We seek to ensure mutual respect, tolerance, and acceptance of all people, regardless of race, gender, ethnicity, religion, nationality, sexual orientation, age, health status, or ability.

We, the undersigned, are concerned residents who urge our leaders to establish a Human Rights Commission in our Town Charter.

I have been reading through the comments all morning and honestly some of them are just heartbreaking because it really reminds me why we started this whole effort to begin with. Behind the scenes things are still moving slowly but I am drafting up a formal letter to present at the next town hall since we really need more than just silence from the people in charge.

I was just checking the page and seeing the activity really makes me realize how many people are actually fed up with the vandalism around town. It is honestly heartening to watch this take off because I remember when I was just staring at a blank screen wondering if anyone else felt the same way about the garden and the signs.

Enough is enough. Really tired of seeing this hate in our quiet town and we need to do something concrete about it.

I don't feel hopeful about World Peace, but locally it's more achievable .
