I was there that day a few seconds after. I prayed for the family, and all involved. A guardrail could prevent another death I would hope. God's blessings and peace to her family.

This was an avoidable accident. A safety change would bring some semblance of peace to those impacted by this tragedy. Illinois also should have a mandated annual auto inspection program. I was at the accident scene, and although the Sheriff's Department has not released findings, some said the old truck was exhibiting erratic road movements that may have been related to a steering issue. The accident occurred on a curve where the truck may have gone into the shoulder. This is very much on my mind, having experienced a loss of ABS braking on my own vehicle only a week ago that caused it to suddenly lose control and veer into the shoulder of the wet pavement offramp. A guard rail is a very good idea, and also the bike trail signs are confusing, indicating that bike riders must use the river-side of the road only for traffic toward Alton (clearly a dangerous travel route) - not the safer side that heads toward Grafton. My heart goes out to the victim's family and friends.

If this will save lives in future...definitely want that guard rail. This death was preventable. Also need to lower the speed limit!

I used to ride the Great River Road between Alton and Grafton 3 to 4 times a week, and finally quit as it became riskier. Hope they do the guardrail before someone else is killed.
