On Saturday May 23, 2015, Carol Admire lost her life bicycling on the Great River Road in Alton, IL. She was riding on the river side of the road on the bike trail and was struck by a truck. We are petitioning to our state legislator to get a guardrail put in between the bike trail and the road to prevent any further accidents from taking place.
I checked the page this morning and saw that we hit a hundred signatures. Truly I never imagined this many people would care so deeply about keeping our local cyclists safe.

So sad to hear this about such a wonderful person and neighbor. She always had a smile on her face and talked about riding. I wish the bike trail was away from the highway from just before lockhaven to grafton like it is from alton to almost lockhaven. That is a very scary ride and needs something to make it safer for cyclists.

I had just come to know Carol in the last year. She was such a vibrant spirit, and would absolutely light up a room when she entered it.. We were becoming good friends. I feel so blessed to have known her, and I already miss her deeply. Please put up guardrails. This should never happen again.

This is heart breaking. My thoughts and prayers to her family and may God watch over them. I know Carol is. Please install guard rails along the bike trails on the river road.

The River Road is used by many bicyclists and motorists and should be safe for all. It is so easy to take your eye off of the road for just a few seconds, to admire the beauty of the surroundings. Had a guardrail been present, Carols life may have been spared.

I used to ride the Great River Road between Alton and Grafton 3 to 4 times a week, and finally quit as it became riskier. Hope they do the guardrail before someone else is killed.

As a young child, my mother, brother and I rode on the River Road from Clifton Terrace to Grafton and back. We were always careful. We flowed with traffic. How many times have drivers hit the guard rail and been lucky not to hit a pedestrian or biker. Safety should be a main concern.
