Naked short selling is stealing, it is counterfeiting. It is the practice of selling shares that simply do not exist, and our broken settlement system accepts the counterfeit shares into the system. These shares exist as IOUs in stock account statements. People buy and sell them, and the underlying company's interests are diluted. It is illegal, and it is wrong. The SEC has done nothing to address this. Is the United States Government going to protect its citizens against outright fraud and counterfeiting? We don't need public hearings, we need action to force stock settlement. Do we want another FTX? This is what happens when there is no enforcement. Please act. The clock is ticking and if you do not act, the damage to our country's economic system may exceed our ability to fix it. A blue sheet investigation will expose the existence of these phantom shares, and hopefully lead to immediate repair of the stock settlement system. In this era of blockchain, there is simply no reason to have a proper accounting of all stock, bond, and commodity transactions.
