What about grace? Don’t rob the kids!

It is wrong to punish these athletes over someone else's clerical error. If it had been an intentional oversight I could understand but the punitive punishment by removing them from the top of the competition; this seems to be retaliatory and reads (to an outsider in NY not familiar with the organization) that there is a personal vested interest in removing this team from their rightful 1st place position. I hope the administration does the right thing and returns these players to their rightful rank and imposes a fee or punishment against the party that incorrectly filed the information.

This is unjust and the punishment shouldn’t be on the kids. Terrible decision and this needs to be overturned.

I am signing this petition to urge the GTHL to reconsider their decision to strip the team of 13 wins and 2 ties due to an administrative error. The team acted in good faith, believing all registrations were in order. The organization has taken responsibility for the mistake, yet the penalty unfairly impacts the players, who had no involvement in the error. This action contradicts basic principles of fairness and natural justice, which are integral to any sporting competition. Under the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, specifically Section 15, individuals have the right to equal treatment under the law and the right to be free from discrimination. Penalizing minors who were not responsible for the administrative error goes against the principle of equality and could be seen as discriminatory, as it unfairly punishes them for something outside of their control. Furthermore, Section 7 of the Charter guarantees the right to life, liberty, and security of the person, which includes being protected from arbitrary or unjust actions that impact a child's opportunities or well-being. Additionally, under the Ontario Human Rights Code, discrimination is prohibited in the context of services or programs, including sports. The decision to penalize the players, who were not responsible for the oversight, could be seen as a violation of their right to participate in a public service (sports programs) without discrimination. The Code mandates fair and equitable treatment in access to services, and these children should not be deprived of their rightful position based on an administrative error. This penalty also undermines the principle of natural justice, a cornerstone of Canadian law, which ensures fairness and accountability in decision-making processes, especially when an individual’s rights are at stake. What an insane amount of abuse from an organization that is supposed to develop young players and provide a competitive environment. Bureaucracy at its finest, with no show of discretion whatsoever.

Negating the work put in all season seems like a really harsh penalty for something beyond the players' control. Be sensible.

Don’t punish the kids for a minor error that made no difference in any game and is being by adults to advance their objectives unfairly!

GTHL got it wrong with this one. Max first game over turned but not 16 games. Be better for the kids! Wasn’t their fault.
