Asher is a super smart young man. Think of all the increased revenue in parents buying this with the ability to control it to their satisfaction?!

My Son, Asher, has been asking me to allow him to play Grand Theft Auto 5 on his XBox for quite some time. As a responsible parent, I review all the games he asks for on all his media devices and I try to balance his level of interest against what I feel might be content that is age and developmentally inappropriate. As he has gotten older and demonstrated maturity, social awareness, and displayed good judgement, I have allowed a more varied number of game titles. To be fair, I have allowed him to play the iOS version 3 of this game for a while now, even though I share many of the objections of other gamers and parents over the overall theme and content. He has shown that he understands the differences between what is right and wrong, what is acceptable and what is not, and what is real and what is not. At some point, as a parent, I have to judge whether restricting access to certain types of content is worth the fight, when our children are bombarded by so many other cultural influences on a regular basis. I have a very hard time justifying purchasing this game, or supporting the company that produces a product that "gamifies" some of the worst behavior our culture produces. That being said, Asher has come to me on several occasions and said that he would like to play this game because of the open nature of the game environment, commonly called a "sandbox". He has argued that he knows that there is the option to engage in what would be considered by me to be objectionable behavior, and that he understands that these things are wrong, in the virtual world as well as in the real world. I have to applaud him for making his arguments clear and rational. I still hav

This young man has a valid request. I don't understand why this is not a consideration. Games don't always need to be of violent or sexual depictions. I had the same reservations as his father when my daughter was his age and wanted to play these games. Ultimately we never bought the games.

I support my son and his effort to bring about sensible content control to this game and others.
