To Center for Human Rights and Democracy, Georgia State University, Atlanta, GA CC: President Mark P. Becker,Georgia State University Dear Organizers of the Center Sub: The upcoming speech by Sri Lankan Ambassador at your center It is with great dismay that We have learnt of your one-sided arrangement of this speech by the Sri Lankan ambassador on how they conquered the so-called War on Terror. We are not requesting that this event be canceled just on the basis of a desire to suppress the opposition. It is based on the fact that your arrangement has failed to let the balancing voice be heard about the the situation of the other side, namely, the Tamils. You know more than anybody else in the world that the Sri Lankan government has for more than a year barred any journalists or neutral third-party observers to be present in the area of conflict. It was done deliberately so they could proceed with their atrocities with no witnesses to report and embarrass them in the world community and to prevent future generations of Tamils using any imagery from this as a seed for a renewed struggle. They have sponsored assassinations of dissenting journalists even from their own Sinhalese ethnic majority. Actually the absence of any witnesses to the war has been a critical factor in the lack of any serious response from the world even as it was happening and even now. In the light of this what you have done is to simply make the voices of the oppressor be heard and only that at that. What is sorely needed is the information from or about the other side. There are many eminent persons who can provide this. For example Francis Boyle, Professor of International Law at the University of Illinois College of Law. So We earnestly request you to cancel the event forthwith until and unless you have a balancing voice at such an event. Your act as of this moment is a disgrace to your Center as it contradicts the very values your Center professes to uphold and to the Georgia State University's intellectual and organizational maturity. We mean you should be knowing what you were doing.

This is honestly so shameful. Why is GSU giving a platform to someone responsible for these kinds of atrocities? Do better.

Keep politics out of our school if it means inviting someone who has blood on their hands.

Totally ridiculous. They are ignoring the journalists who were killed just for reporting the facts. Shut it down.

My family lived through this. It breaks my heart to see the university hosting this man like he is some hero. Unbelievable.

cancel this event immediately. it is not right to let them spew propaganda without any opposition or the truth being told.

GSU needs to stop this. Human rights matter more than some guest speaker who hides the truth about what happened.
