Developers are abusing a well-intended affordable housing law (8-30g) to override local zoning and development plans in order to maximize their profit.

We are not against affordable housing. We want to meet the need for affordable housing together with our elected officials, not be helpless by-standers to the self-serving interests of the developers.

This petition is for:

  1. An immediate moratorium for Ridgefield from 8-30g, the statute that allows developers to supersede town zoning plans by meeting a minimum number of affordable housing units in their plans. This will provide the town with four years to plan for additional affordable housing growth needed. We further insist this moratorium be retroactive to include all 8-30g applications received after the date when the housing equivalency points reached 2%, even if this means changing the state law immediately.
  2. An immediate amendment to 8-30g that removes the opportunity for abuse of the law. Development plans should be within scale of the surrounding area and with an increased percentage required to be affordable.
  3. An immediate denial or revision, to the peoples' satisfaction, the two current 8-30g applications at 28 Gilbert St and 593 Main St, Ridgefield, CT.
