In September, UGSDW announced a campaign to bring union representation to all student workers at Grinnell. We tried to work with the Grinnell administration to reach an agreement that would ensure students had the right to decide for themselves whether to unionize or not, free from interference and intimidation.
Today, we were saddened to learn that not only will Grinnell oppose the expansion of UGSDW "beyond the confines of dining services and catering," but the administration believes that "those who engage in work-study are 'students' and not 'employees.'" Beyond being insulting to the hundreds of Grinnell students that need to work to pay for tuition, the message is clear: Grinnell is prepared to fight to stop students from organizing for fair wages and working conditions.
Join us in calling on Grinnell to let student workers have a voice at work by signing our proposed neutrality and card check agreement.

Reaching this point has been exhausting but the momentum is undeniable now. Seeing this much support proves that the administration cannot keep dismissing the reality of our work.

If we are enough to run the campus, we are enough to have a seat at the table. Stop pretending we are just here for the tuition credit.
As an institution with a long and proud history of social justice and self-governance on the part of the students, it is hypocritical that the College is interfering with the unionization process.
I realize that some students don't take work-study seriously, but that's no reason to deny all of us our status as actual employees. The idea that a student can't be a worker is absolutely senile.
Seriously? GC needs to get with the program. It is 2018 not 1950.
Grinnell loves to talk about values until it costs them a dime. Let us organize.

My paycheck says employee on it so I dont know why they keep playing dumb about this.
