Whereas members of the Clark University Athletics Hall of Fame may include alumni, coaches, or administrators, who have brought distinction to the Clark University athletic program, be it known that Greg Marcotte …
… was Worcester City Champion for Cross Country in the fall of 1993 and 1994;
… was Worcester City Runner-Up for Cross Country in the fall of 1992;
… set Clark’s home Cross Country course record in the fall of 1994;
… ran his best 8-kilometer time of 25:50 at the University of Massachusetts - Dartmouth in the fall of 1994;
… won the 10,000 meters in track in the Rhode Island College (RIC) Tri-State Invitational, lapping the field in the spring of 1992;
… ran his best 1,500-meter event with a time of 4:09 at WPI in the spring of 1993.
Whereas individuals considered for induction should be outstanding examples of character, leadership, commitment, and sportsmanship, be it known that Greg Marcotte …
… was Clark’s 1995 Fred C. Hebert Trophy Award Winner, an honor “presented to the senior or graduate male who has made a significant contribution to the intercollegiate athletic program and whose dedication and performance have enriched the tradition of Clark Athletics”;

… earned his Bachelor of Arts in 1995.
Retired long-time Clark Women’s Basketball Coach Patricia Glispin, formerly an assistant with the Cross Country and Track and Field programs, stated: “Greg is truly one of the cornerstones of Clark Cross Country. He excelled as a runner, competitor, and superb team leader. [Greg was and is] a great representative of CU. His service as a coach following his competitive career further enhances his tremendous contribution to Clark. I believe he is a perfect fit and an incredibly deserving candidate for the CU Hall of Fame! There’s no question.”
Consider the following for context:
There are a total of two (2) runners in the Clark Athletics Hall of Fame. Both were inducted with the Class of 2004. Both participated in the 1980s.
Serving as a three-time Cross Country team Captain is an accomplishment shared by two men only before him (none since), and one women’s Cross Country runner all time.
Track and Field at Clark was eliminated as an intercollegiate sport after the spring 1993 season. Greg helped form the Track and Field club and served as President.
Greg served on the Clark Athletics Hall of Fame Selection Committee from approximately the 2005-06 through the 2009-10 terms, and was therefore ineligible for induction during that time. He was co-Chair of the Committee his last year.
Bob Brigida ‘84, (CU HoF ‘04), who was the CU Head Coach at the time Greg participated, could not be reached for comment.
Clark competed as an independent until joining the Constitution Athletic Conference (a precursor to the NEWMAC when combined with the former NEW8), therefore league honors and accolades are non-existent.
Greg is married to Sarah (née Pierce) Marcotte, ‘98, Clark’s 1997 Alice Higgins Award Winner for combined academic excellence with athletic achievement. They are the parents of Gwen and Laurie Marcotte, and reside in Worcester, MA. Greg and Sarah have dedicated their careers to elementary and secondary education in Worcester.
Having met the significant criteria set forth above and in other intangible ways, we the undersigned fully endorse the nomination of Greg Marcotte, ‘95 for induction into the Clark University Athletics Hall of Fame for the Class of 2024.
Submitted respectfully,
Friends of Greg Marcotte ‘95 for CU HoF
