Call for an environmentally sustainable, ethically minded new Vice-Chancellor for the University of York
In regards to what qualities should be considered when appointing a new Vice-chancellor we as students expect him or her to: 1. Have a high priority for sustainability and a drive to develop an environmentally friendly institution 2. Lead from the front with regards to environmental commitment. The most sustainable institutions have environmental concerns at every level of the university and a high level of personal commitment from their Vice-chancellor 3. Recognise the importance of working with other UK organisations dedicated to sustainability 4. Lead and inspire the fundamental change in culture and practice essential to make us an outstanding modern university.

I have been meeting with student representatives behind the scenes to ensure our demand for a climate-conscious leader remains the top priority during the selection process. The silence from the administration is frustrating but it only reinforces why we must keep pushing for someone who treats sustainability as a non-negotiable requirement.

Seeing this level of engagement confirms that our community expects far more than the status quo regarding our climate future. I am heartened to know so many of you share this vision for the leadership our university needs.

FINALLY. We need someone who actually cares about the future and not just the money. Keep it green.
York needs to step up. Every other uni is doing better than us on this and it is embarrassing honestly.
its about time we saw some real leadership on climate change. stop ignoring the obvious.
Totally agree. If we want to be a top uni we need to act like a modern one. sustainability should be the main goal.
Get someone in who actually has a spine regarding the environment.

The next person in charge really needs to walk the walk. No more empty promises while the planet burns.
