Why fly the flag of the Army of Northrern Virginia at the Greene County Courthouse. This County was the capitol of the State of Franklin during that war and that flag did not represent all of the Confederacy. Each State Militia flew it's own battle flag or the flag of the State, including the people of TN who were fighting for slavery.

The courthouse is for all Americans. The Confederate Flag flown today clearly and sinfully disrespects the Black community. Hate crimes are illegal. Our country, the UNITED STATES of America, has worked hard to stomp out hate, and there has been slow progress, because of hate. Governments and businesses have taken down the Confederate flag out of respect for the Black community, because it represents slavery, racism and bigotry. State's rights (historically a guise for racist political policies in the South), is represented by the Tennessee Flag. An American flag, Tennessee Flag and Greene County flag are already up. That is enough. This is an underhanded political ploy, and a highly disrespectful and bigoted move by the County Commissioners. Spend time on more important things, not enticing racism. Read some Black History books. Put the flag in a museum or your home, but not in OUR courthouse for the American people. I sign this to help protect the South from replanting hatred, racism, fear and bigotry. Harper Lee would not be happy with you. Shame on you, County Commissioners.

I think the commissioner if he still holds a county job at the Sheriff's office is a racist and trouble maker he needs to be terminated. Also if this is all the commission is going to do is waste our money on trying to start trouble I would think they are useless.

This symbol of hate & intolerance does not belong on state property. It's a treasonous flag and has no place except for the history books & museums.

I don't live in Greene County but I do have friends and relatives from there. My husband was also born there. If this flag is flown at the courthouse we won't return to visit there any longer. I'm sure one person saying this doesn't seem important to you but when word spreads about this I know there will be others who won't visit there as well. I think it's a flag filled with hate and prejudice and should not be flown.

East Tennessee and Greene County in particular were PRO UNION during the Civil War! If anything that flag is a stain on this area because many East Tennesseans suffered greatly under Confederate occupation!

This flag is so hurtful to people of color. I hate having to explain the black and white children that this flag flew over a rebellious south that enslaved black people and tortured them. The flag is also not historically accurate as Greene county was with the Union

As a local of Greeneville, I do not want to be represented in this way! The flag is a symbol of hatred and oppression to many. Let's not make people who refer to us as "backward" and "racist" seem right! Tax dollars should not go toward something so many locals disagree with.

I feel that flying the flag at a public location will divide this town that is ready somewhat divided. KKK utilizises this flag as a symbol to represent them rather it was meant for that purpose or not. There are already KKK flyers being passed and placed on windshields in town. As an African American citizen of this county I feel concerned and will feel threathend by the placement of the flag at the court house. I feel this is a slap in the face to me.

If the flag offends one person, it also offends me!

East TN was primarily abolitionist terrority, i.e. Andrew Johnson. I believe his homeplace is in Greene County. The CBF does not belong on any government building any where in the United States. Government buildings are paid for with tax payer dollars--all tax payer dollars; not just the descendents of confederates. If the CBF flags over any government building in Greene County will not visit your county or spend a single dime in your county. Thank you for your consideration.

I do not want that flag to be flown on government property. I feel this is just a stunt for someone to have their fifteen minutes of fame, and personally I am sick of this stuff giving our small town such a negative name. I'm sick of seeing the flags everywhere I turn but there's nothing to be done about people flying them on their cars and private property. This is NOT their private property. I pay my taxes, and do not want that flag raised. If it is raised then everyone needs to be able to raise the flag of their choice; rainbow flag, anti theist flag, etc. This is ridiculous and an embarrassment to Greeneville, tn.

Not a single true Southerner like myself is proud of this flag and the "heritage" that it stands for. There is no reason to raise it now, especially when so many states have already removed it out of respect for all citizens, not just racist Southerners.

private - yes. governmental - no; we live in the US not the "confederate states of Lee's battle flag."
