You never see bikes on Greenbay road because of how dangerous it currently is for bikers. If a protected bike lane is added, it will be much safer to ride a bike on Greenbay road and more people will do so.

I use this road frequently and am against plans, which will make the construction take longer. I never see bikes on Greenbay and don't think the lanes will get used if they are constructed.

I am writing this in lieu of filling out the comment form on the city’s website to express my displeasure with the proposed bicycle lanes currently included in the Green Bay Road project. My husband, Larry, is a biker, and we are both very concerned with having adequate places for bike traffic as well as minimizing the environmental and economic impact on the city by using Green Bay Road as a “bike path.” Here are my reasons for opposing the bicycle lanes.
It is a waste of resources to build and maintain bike lanes on Green Bay Road. My husband often rides on the Green Bay Trail since his bike can be ridden on the current surface A lot of bikes can’t and need a paved surface. My suggestion is to modify the Green Bay Trail to make the surface “bike friendly” using permeable materials. Why spend so much money to install bike lanes on Green Bay when the Green Bay trail already exists.
Removal of trees along the right-of-way on Green Bay Road is not only unfriendly to the environment, it makes the road much less attractive for walkers and drivers.
I live near St. Johns. Bikers typically ride “in packs” along St. Johns. If there is a bike lane on Green Bay, bikers won’t use it because they can’t ride in packs and don’t want to ride next to traffic lanes on Green Bay.
Garbage pickup will be an issue as well as school bus drop off and pickup and package delivery.
How will snow removal be done both on the bike lanes with its barriers and the main part of the road?
I have seen the bike path along Sheridan Road in Evanston. It is NOT attractive. In addition, many of my friends from Evanston have said that pedestrians are greatly impacted and find it hard to cross the street.
It is already dangerous for people to pull out of their driveways along Green Bay. Adding bike lanes to an already busy street seems like a safety nightmare to me.

Bike lanes only provide a false sense of security when there are literally hundreds of driveways and blind spots up and down GB and any other suburban street they intend to put one in. Cyclists can manage to navigate traffic fine without them, this isn’t a metropolitan area.

NOT in favor of widening Green Bay Road for Bike lanes. Already too much traffic and bikers will be in jeopardy as well as vehicle traffic needing to go into oncoming traffic

Repair and re-pave as needed, but do not widen. This is a residential street and should remain so. During construction, non-local traffic needs to be re-routed west to 41 or Skokie Blvd, not east into the neighborhoods. Saint Johns and our other narrow residential streets will not be able to sustain this, it should be for local traffic/residents only.

I started off in favor of the plan, including the bike lanes. But having thought about it more carefully, I’ve decided that it’s too much. We don’t need a wide boulevard with bike lanes … jammed up against existing homes. It feels like a bit of a bridge to nowhere. I think it makes more sense to keep Green Bay Rd. constant with all the roadway to the south and north, and I agree that we need to focus more carefully on bike lanes.

Green Bay Road homeowner and we are strongly opposed to the widening of GB for bike lanes. We moved into the neighborhood specifically for the trees and would be sad to see the decades of greenery demolished.

I am opposed to any bike lanes on GBR. Too dangerous with so many driveways on this congested street. Bike riders rarely obey the rules of the road. They ride 2 and 3 abreast and blow through stop signs and lights. We know we live on a busy street. But don't take away the only screen we have from noise...mature trees and our parkways. There are many options for bike riders as they pedal through HP.
