We respectfully ask the The Kansas City Zoo to consider offering a greater price reduction to FOTZ Members and non-members alike for homeschool classes (When Science Attacks). The upcoming price increase of 80% for FOTZ members (from $5 per child to $9) and the additional charge of the school rate admission ($5) for non-members (a 50% increase with zoo admission) is unnecessarily high.

Families with multiple children will be the most adversely affected by this price hike and will discourage faithful attendees from signing up. Many homeschooling families already support the zoo additionally by bringing younger children to the preschool Science Adventure Club on the same day.

While a small price increase of 10-20% is understandable for inflation or staffing purposes, we ask you to put this price increase into perspective for families on budgets. Many choose to purchase memberships at the zoo (and not at other Kansas City educational venues) to both support our amazing zoo AND to take advantage of these top-notch classes.

In 2013, the zoo increased the amount of homeschool classes because of the high demand for these excellent sessions. Any FOTZ member invests in the zoo financially for its educational diversity, quality, and value. The homeschool class is a tremendous value members and non-members alike enjoy!

Please lower the new price so that homeschooling families can continue to endorse the zoo as much as possible!

November 23, 2013

The Kansas City Zoo management is currently dodging my messages while they sit on these price hikes. I am documenting every story you have sent me about how this cost forces your family out of the programs you rely on. Do not let them ignore the fact that they are pricing out the community.

November 23, 2013

The Kansas City Zoo management needs to stop ignoring the families they are pricing out of their own programs. This momentum proves they cannot brush our concerns aside as if we do not matter.

Hard to justify the price now that it is $9 for each of our children. We bought the FOTZ membership because of the zoo classes. Cut the fee in 1/2 and then we took advantage of the warmer days to spend time at the zoo, ride the sky ride, etc. We will likely not renew our FOTZ membership if we are only "saving" $1 per class. Makes it unaffordable for us.

I am so sad to see the price go up. I could justify $10 for a class, but $15 is a huge difference. We even looked at becoming friends of the zoo because of the zoo class discount, but now i am thinking it won't be cost effective. Especially if you have mulitiple kids (and most homeschoolers do). My daughter loves the classes, but we will need to reconsider if we will be a part next year... the zoo classes are part of the reason we are looking at NOT doing a coop next year, but the price will be a HUGE factor on if we participate.

We are so thankful to be able to attend the homeschool classes. My boys really look forward to them each month. Please reconsider the price increase. We, as many other homeschoolers, are a one income family. This price increase would price is out if these classes.

As someone else posted, most Homeschool families are one income families. The increase in price will adversely affect our household budget. We will have to be much more choosy in the classes we attend at the zoo.

Our family will not be able to participate at the increased rate.
