I do not live up in Elk Meadows but am constantly driving up there to go hiking or skiing. The washboards are so bad, they have almost sent my truck skittering off the road. Not only is the condition of the road annoying, it is unsafe for those who live up there and those in town who utilize the public spaces. Thanks.

George, the County pays almost half the entire budget in salaries and benefits for a 36 hour work week. My solution is to privatize the work....which doubles the amount of money used on the roads. County Rd. 5 gets a ton of traffic from non-residents (hikers, skiers, hunters, bikers) due to the national forest access. There is very little new development on CR5...most of the traffic is from Elk Meadows, one of the oldest subdivisions in Ouray County. It literally goes months without any maintenance and tears our vehicles apart.

That is correct $2 million annually which equals to $5,000 annual per mile of road in the County including labor, plowing, and equipment ANNUALLY. I don't know about you but I have a little understand of how little $5,000 a year would go for each mile of road. I think they do pretty damn good. But since you have all the solutions, tell me what would make it acceptable using the annual $5,000 for your mile of road? The real problem here is people building and buying on dirt roads in a very small county and expecting the service of paved roads in a county with the budget of Denver. The real problem is people buying/building investment properties with no clue of the market or investment. Obviously paying way more than a property is worth on a dirt road will not be a return on an investment as paying what a home is worth on a paved road.

Please chip seal. Rocks and mud gone. Steep sections are slippery no matter the surface. SLOW DOWN!

County Rd. 5 is in a constant state of disrepair. The increasing multi-modal use of it - walkers, runners, mtn. bikers, vehicles - makes it potentially dangerous. Also, those who drive it every day suffer extra repair expenses ranging from flat tires to major front-end work. I support Ouray County pursuing these grant monies to improve Co. Rd. 5 south of Ridgway.

County road 5 in Ouray County Colorado is in much needed repair. The grading done periodically on the road turns to wash board in days after the work is done. Also the section on the hill just before county road 5A that the roads and bridges department added large rocks is very rough. This road is the cause of me having to buy new tires every year at the cost of $1670.00 each time.

I concur with my fellow signees: let's preserve and support the vitality of our community and our wealth of ecologic and recreational resources by improving CR 5 access. A safe, well-maintained road is critical not only to the residents of our mountain community, but to a wide and diverse array of visitors to our public lands.

The condition of this road is effecting our property values. Road and Bridge receives almost $2 million annually and this is the product we get? Unacceptable. The road can be dangerous, destroys our vehicles and effects our property values.

This road sees much more traffic than just the residents that live here, lots of recreational access! It could pose a danger to those who don't know it well (visitors) and no one wants to see an accident and the county I'm sure does not relish responding to any kind of emergency that would require travel on it.

PLEASE PAVE IT !!!!! When I called AAA to service my car in Elk Meadows Estates, the tow truck people would not come up County Rd 5 because of its awful condition. I have had to put so much more money into my SUV until it was beyond repair. Now I have a truck and dread all the work it will need because of the washboards rattling it to death. Please! Please! improve this road for all of us people who live here and for all of the people who come up this road to go the Uncompaghre Nat'l Forest. Thank you for your consideration.
