As Trinidad becomes a more vibrant, outgoing society, there is an increasing demand for usage of scenic public open spaces. These occasions include fun runs, health and wellness events and environmental protection and education forums. The Queen’s Park Savannah and Palmiste Park fulfills the needs for these events in North and South Trinidad respectively, however there is no such space available in Central Trinidad.
The Central Pathfinders Environmental Foundation is initiating a movement to
have a scenic open space allocated and developed in Central Trinidad. Proposed site for the Savannah can be either side of the Preysal Flyover [i.e. in the area east of and between the Preysal High School and Couva Children’s
hospital or along the Rivulet Road south side between the Balmain and Sevilla
traffic lights]. The latter can take advantage of both flat and undulating terrain
and can therefore be a location for small hiking and biking events. Both sites
can also accommodate a Savannah large enough to host multiple recreational, fitness
and community activities, vehicle access, washrooms etc. as well as being close
to health facilities, motorways and modern amenities.
We kindly invite you to sign this petition to support us as we lobby for this green space; you are also encouraged to leave a comment and or suggestion(s) for alternative sites for the Savannah's development in Central Trinidad.
