The start of this new school year brought on a brand new dress code that has caused some uproar between students and faculty. Stricter than it was before, the dress code prohibits any type of shorts 6 inches above the knee and spaghetti strap tank tops. While I understand that it is a professional learning environment, and some clothes are not appropriate for school, it seems like the administration is taking the dress code to a whole new (and unnecessary) level. Because it is still the early days of September it is HOT and being in a school with no air conditioning it is hard to even focus on work. Girls are GOING to be wearing shorts and tank tops, who wants to cover up in this heat? So if our shorts are covering our butts and are shirts are covering our boobs, what's the issue? I have seen multiple girls dress coded over the past few days for wearing shorts/shirts that cover their boobs/butt but somehow it is still seen as inappropriate. It just isn't fair. Instead of shaming girls for their bodies, how about we teach boys to respect them. When I am told that my outfit is distracting to male students AND faculty it is quite upsetting. If an adult is looking at me, a 17 year old girl, and finds what i'm wearing sexual in anyway...What are they doing in a school??? I want to keep this pretty concise but the purpose of this petition is to protest the new ( and sexist) dress code. Hopefully we can work with the administration and try to come up with an equal dress code for girls and boys

Sincerely

Bryanna Canfield

I really thought this might just fizzle out but the way this has taken off is honestly overwhelming and kind of surreal. My phone is vibrating every few seconds with notifications and it makes me think the administration finally has to listen to us since we are not just a few angry kids in a classroom anymore.

It seems as if this dress code was developed in a unilateral and arbitrary way. Dress codes can be developed in a thoughtful and timely way. Cooperation is the way to go.

if y'all really think kids are gonna wear shorts 6 inches above the knee in this heat you are really delusional. Let these kids live. Also I'm not from this school but my friend asked me to sign
